Hello!

In their infinite wisdom, a member of staff has gotten a grant for VR headsets before actually finding out how much they will cost... Naturally, that's now become my problem to make what they want, cost what money they've got.

Of course, the sensible school VR system (ClassVR) is way outside of this budget.

Has anyone used Meta Quest headsets (2's or 3's?) and if so, what is the management like? Setting up? Accounts? Deploying apps? Filtering? Charging? Thankfully we're only looking a 1 to 2 headsets, so maybe it's manageable?

Just what I needed on a Friday afternoon!

Any and all comments/advice are much appreciated! Thanks!

The important thing would be to work out what they intend to do with them and what software/apps they intend to use.

This in part will determine which to purchase.

Meta Quest 2 can be pain to setup in a school environment at least it was when we tried a few years back. The device needs linking to a Meta Facebook profile. I couldn't get the mobile phone to sync to the Headset across our Wireless and you need a mobile phone with the meta app to setup the headsets. I assume something in the filters was blocking the mobile or headset. There are no MDM or management systems that I know about for Quest headsets. Deploying apps would be brought per account per device and need manually installing. You would need some sort of Guest Wi-Fi or none domain wifi to use the headset. USB C for charging or connecting to a PC.

Plus every device needs configuring per user as in the lens and strap position need setting up for each individual. Its not just put on and use as the headset has to sit in a very narrow set of conditions or its blurry to use.

In "theory" you can sync the Quest up to a Projector or TV so the entire class can watch. I never got that working they refused to see each other and I didn't have time to look into what was going wrong.
