I use both Wave and Exa at different schools i support and both work well. I would say i've had more issues with EXA regards the filtering and recently the support has been a bit on the slow side (but that is improving) Wave 9 don't natively have active reporting which i need to speak to Lee about (according to Support another product is required to give that) so be aware of that when getting a quote.

 

There's full reporting functionality included in the standard firewall licence (user ID, blocked web attempts, suspicious activity, all the usual), and more customisable/scheduling features available with Central Firewall Reporting (small extra charge) but fair to say that Fastvue is a better experience, especially for non-technical users such as safeguarding staff - much easier to navigate, the URL clean feature is great, and includes alerting. Pricing is much better through us than previous too.

To add to this as an end user, like a lot of products the functionality is there, it's just not particularly great for either end users such as safeguarding leads or for IT. Fastvue literally just puts it all together in a way that any layman can use. Smoothwall has an advantage as an edu focused product but even that could do with a FastVue touch IMO!

Agree - I think Fastvue is a good addition to any enterprise firewall

We are with BT Lancashire/Openreach. Been waiting since Summer to be upgraded from 100mb to 1gb. Now they're saying they don't have the equipment for the server room to do 1gb and that when they've done previous schools, there's been big issues.

 

Can't be that hard surely?

When working in South Cumbria we used LUNS.. possible you can get B4RN in South Cumbria / Lancs .. easily 1gb possibly more, only issue is any filtering and remote access would be on you to source as its just connection
