Horizontalmatt Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I've recently started my first campaign as a DM, playing through Decent into Avernus, which so far is really good. I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for other campaigns?
Disease Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Dragon Heist is really good although I really enjoy writing my own, 1
Rob_D Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Player rather than a DM, but we've been doing some of the Saltmarsh campaigns. They're not long, individually, but tie together quite well and have been good fun (we totally didn't set a kraken on fire that one time). Edited November 7, 2023 by Rob_D
ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Love a bit of D&D! We semi regularly stream our homebrew campaign on our youtube channel ( ). It doesn't get nearly so many views as the rest of our stuff but it great fun nonetheless. Tune in to see me as a grumpy dwarf artificer After this campaign concludes I've got a spawling seaborne campaign ready to go in my own world of Sanctuary. With tools like Inkarnate and World Anvil you can create some truly excellent campaign settings that have as much depth and detail as you want. 2
Horizontalmatt Posted November 7, 2023 Author Posted November 7, 2023 Dragon Heist is really good although I really enjoy writing my own, I want to start writing my own, but want to get a couple of pre made campaigns under my belt before entering that realm.
Mako Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Also currently running Descent Into Avernus after gamer friends enjoyed Baldur's Gate 3. I haven't played D&D since college but I came out of DM retirement to run this and they only have experience of a few one-shots they've done between themselves. If they enjoy it, I do have a campaign ready to go from days of yore, although I'd need to refactor it for 5e.
psydii Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Two very different options would be Wild beyond the Witchlight, and Oracle of War. I've not run Witchlight, but I've read it, and currently running Oracle of War for my group when we are missing players from our primary campaign. A third option (but I'm not sure I'm recommending it) is the Strixhaven book which is also quite interesting - its a series of scenes/scenarios separated by weeks/months of 'downtime' spanning four years which the players fill with inspiration riffing from the NPCs and extra-curricular activities... or improvised mini adventures if they are more the dungeon-crawl type. Andrew_C Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 "Any D&D players on here?" - or "Do bears .... in the woods?" I'm probably in a tiny minority - I don't!
Rob_D Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 "Any D&D players on here?" - or "Do bears .... in the woods?" I'm probably in a tiny minority - I don't! What, play D&D or *** in the woods? 1
pete Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Used to, picked up a bit over lockdowns, but haven't for a while and mostly get my fix via podcasts (naddpod etc) Quite enjoying the Natural Six episode 0/0.5 at the moment (https://www.youtube.com/@NaturalSix). What, play D&D or *** in the woods? Combine the two and you've got LARP. 2
Horizontalmatt Posted November 8, 2023 Author Posted November 8, 2023 Used to, picked up a bit over lockdowns, but haven't for a while and mostly get my fix via podcasts (naddpod etc) Quite enjoying the Natural Six episode 0/0.5 at the moment (https://www.youtube.com/@NaturalSix). If you like your DnD podcasts, I recommend giving Dungeons and Daddies a ago. Bit different from your standard DnD podcast as it is about 4 dads who are transported into the forgotten realm in search of their sons, but I have cried with laughter at this.

I think I did try a couple of episodes, but someone (host or guest) set my teeth on edge. Current playlist is: High Rollers DnD (Yogscast) Three Black Halflings Dimension 20 Oxventure (Outside Xbox & Outside Xtra crew) Not Another D&D Podcast (very funny, very NSFW).
ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Good grief! Last night's session was stressful! We finished the last session having discovered an old party member being held in an extra-dimensional prison and resolved to bust them out. Having disguised ourselves as soldiers we talked our way in with some forged prisoner transfer docs and got our Tiefling Bard out. At the exit were betrayed by our Rogue, however who turned on us and led 20 guards against us. We ended the session, victorious, with the doors to the fort broken open and a long sprint across a bridge to the chamber that would planeshift us home to safety. This session was ALL about running away as fast as possible. We were pretty spent after getting out of the prison and being chased by a colnel (ranger/paladin), two mages and his rifle regiment made escape REALLY tough. It came down to the barbarian bringing up the rear and absorbing damage with his rage whilst cracking gems on his helm of brilliance like they were going out of fashion. Some well-placed walls of fire and clever use of the darkness spell bought us enough time to get back and escape, but I've never been so mentally tired after slightly more than two hours of D&D! Great fun!
GrumbleDook Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 What, play D&D or *** in the woods? Like many of us who have served ... the woods is a perfectly natural place to take a **** ... and no, we never worried about the bears; they were always very polite about asking for some bog paper when they ran out of squirrels, 1
Garacesh Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 I'm part of a homebrew campaign, every 2 weeks. Currently playing a Level 14 Orc Barbarian/Blood Hunter It's an.. interesting campaign. We're not quite sure what's going on yet but we're pretty sure the big bad is doing some kind of alchemical-sciency-magicky experimentation and is making dragon-like abominations. .. although we've been sidetracked because the DM had a fey creature stalking us and it dropped a book. I read the book. This has, by all accounts, been considered a bad move. It was The Scrivener's Tale. Now I have the Scrivener's mark. We've tracked the book through the last time it was sold at auction and we're trying to follow in the footsteps of the old baron who bought it and spent a considerable amount of his fortune chasing something.
MrRedd11 Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Currently playing in four campaigns: Thursday's - Tomb of Annihilation and Tyranny of Dragons Sunday's - Two homebrew campaigns I also run DnD club at the school I work at for both students and staff! I am a very firm believer that you can't play DnD wrong to be honest! As long as everyone is having fun and enjoying it, whether it's module book or homebrew! ♂️ (I know I am very lucky to play twice a week and am very much making the most it while it lasts) 2
