andy_b Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Just had this email. The ribbons compatible with your IDP Smart card printer will be discontinued within the next six months and I’m cautious you won’t be able to print new cards. To minimise inconvenience, I'm discussing printer upgrades with all my applicable customers. Not sure how true it is?
Steve21 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I’d say semi true - https://www.id-enhancements.com/blog/idp-announces-end-of-life-support-for-various-printers/ Says they’re stopping making them 31st December but old stock would still work as such So guess it depends how many you print as to whether you just stock up in advance Steve 1
andy_b Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 I did have a quick look - but didn't find that - thanks. Time to bulk buy
3s-gtech Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 That’s a shame. With what’s been planned here in terms of cards (somehow becoming a massive, massive job instead of the trickle we currently do) I think getting a replacement for our 50-S is probably a good idea anyway.
Oaktech Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Our Trust have just moved us all to Magicard 300 printers because half the schools were using Smart and the other half Magicard Enduro - we now order our ribbons direct from the trust and it saves us about 15%.
andy_b Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 Ours is eight years old, we don't print that many cards, maybe 200 double sided p/a, so just going to stock up in October.
Aprice Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 That's disappointing, I have been very happy so far with the Smart 50 and 51 units and would probably stick with them going forward.
