Our entire 40 school (primary only) Trust is only just using 150TB, without ever having deleted anything (yet, archiving is coming!).

 

This won't affect us as we pay (as all schools should) to license A3 for teaching staff.

 

Any institution not paying for M/O365 at this point is putting their institution at risk. We may not like it (I spend £90k per annum on M365, £20k in Azure and can think of a myriad of things it would be better spent on) but it's core to the delivery of our systems and services (as is Google if you are that way inclined).

 

P.S anyone using OVS-ES agreements should move to the CHEST framework. You can license any number on EES terms, giving you device based O365 licences, Intune etc.

And it's showing the new, ~100TB limit. I feel reasonably confident that won't be a problem here (at least not for a long time).

That's super impressive. We're up to about 15tb. But now we're getting a handle on retention policies I'm hoping it won't grow too much (and it might even go down).

I've been looking at ours this week, we're at 17Tb, 11Tb of that is users onedrive, we need to start looking at retention policies for ONeDrive and Sharepoint, especially with the school wanting to mve the rest of our storage from on-prem!

20TB used here, out of 117TB. Not too bad as we are now in the cycle of deleting the oldest Class Teams while creating new ones every year.

Random question, does anyone know what happens to students licensed with the "Microsoft A3 Student Benefit License" we have a number of students over the 100Gb limit but have the above license. Does anyone know if they can save up to 1tb?

 

They are mainly art, graphics and media students. Can't find the answer anywhere and our ovs and csp provider haven't really got me a answer.

The limit is 100TB across the whole tenancy (unless you've set per-user/group quotas). Plus 50GB for every staff member with an A3 license (applying the increase to every student license wouldn't solve Microsoft's problem).

 

So one student could have 90TB of penguin videos and everyone else could be squeezed into the remaining 10TB and Microsoft wouldn't care.

If you have students that are breaching 100gb and you don't want to buy an A3 license then you can utilise SharePoint and/or Teams.

 

Just my opinion, but if you have users legitimately pushing that amount of storage requirement then I would consider them an A3 user. If you are purchasing A3 faculty licenses properly through an OVS M365 licensing package or whatever they call it (I go through a chest agreement, speak with the likes of Pugh for help with this) then you just pay for FTE count and get students A3 for free.

 

Also back to a technical note, email storage also now counts under a users personal storage allowance so if you haven't already, implement archive mailboxes asap as they don't count to the allowances and are free, simple to setup (1 click or PowerShell for bulk) and it simply gives the user a second mailbox and moves anything older than 2 years into the archive mailbox, only downside is that this can only be accessed by desktop or browser and not mobile device but we are a heavy mobile use school and it doesn't really effect anyone.

Saved a huge chunk of storage through from Archive mailboxes.

Somewhere in MS' magical cloud land still within your tenant but outside your storage quota.

 

Best guess physically, slower storage medium as its archive data and let's be honest waiting a few extra seconds for an email 2+ years old that is a rare activity is not really an issue.

 

If I remember rightly archive mailboxes go up to 100gb and then start recycling or you can increase them more if required at extra cost.
