Dos_Box Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 Covid (which we got after last years BETT), and covid restrictions still in place in a lot of venues last year prevented us from holding one. With BETT in March, and our conf usually in May, meant we have to hold it in October, but we are very happy to have the ball rolling with this now and we are quite looking forwards to seeing you all again. The Royal Armouries is a great venue, very central for transport links, and a short 10-15 min walk from the train station if you are not coming by car (I know this because I walked it when I went to meet their hospitaility staff for a look around the facilities). Next year we should be back to a May conf once BETT returns to its January slot.
tom_newton Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 For the avoidance of doubt, Chris picked his venue BEFORE he picked his sponsor - so it has nothing to do with us being in Leeds! Handy though. Having said that, a night in the ibis preston was always a treat There's a free water taxi from Leeds station too - if you go out the new entrance (go up the stairs to the big walkway across the platforms, turn left, exit at the ticket barrier) the water taxi is signed from there. It only goes to the armouries. 1

Extinction Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Super news! I'll promote across our 94 schools and academies! Well done the edugeek team! 1
localzuk Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Hopefully I'll be able to make it to this one. Bit of a trek to the far north, but hopefully I'll be able to find the time! 1

steve Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 I've lived at Leeds Dock for 10+ years so this is literally on my door step, but as typically happens I'm in the midst of buying a place so might have moved before the event! Happy to provide whatever info I can about the area, like parking, hotels, shops, restaurants, pubs (extensive knowledge in this area), etc. 2
tom_newton Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 The water taxi now costs £2 per journey and only runs Mon – Sun: 10am – 6pm Inflation I guess Shows it's been a while since I went by that mode. Still, slightly faster than walking and much more fun.
bald_pig Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I have wanted to visit the Royal Armouries for so long! I can't not go!
mikeprice Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Is there likely to be a pub nearby???? OK - I'll be there! 1
Dos_Box Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 Is there likely to be a pub nearby???? OK - I'll be there! There will be an evening event, and details of that will be published later 1

Dos_Box Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 5 hour drive or £125 on the train will have to miss this one. That is a cheap train fare these days! And it's only 10 mins from the station

timbo343 Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Can i just check the date of the conference as the 24th October falls within the school term rather than in the holidays so you may get some school areas in the north of the UK not being able to make it. I have a feeling October 2023 half term might be different around the country. I've looked at our holiday dates and seen that the 24th October is still in term time with the following week in half term.
localzuk Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 It is difficult to choose a date for any event I'd imagine, as many areas have their holidays at different times (as has pretty much always been the case). Especially as Academies can set their own term dates entirely.

I have a feeling October 2023 half term might be different around the country. I've looked at our holiday dates and seen that the 24th October is still in term time with the following week in half term. Many (but not all) Yorkshire regions, as well as some others such as Derbyshire (neighbouring Lincolnshire is off), are on holiday that week. My apologies, but when I checked, most areas in England are off that week. If you are at work I'm sure once you see the speakers, your schools may be a bit more leinient in letting you attend. It does seem to be mainly Yorkshire and Derbyshire in work that week, for which I apologise, but we had to pick a date. We shall be making tickets available very soon as well as letting you know all of the information you require to attend as well as our confirmed speakers.
timbo343 Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 No worries. I'll take the time off as "course" or holiday [emoji16][emoji1303] 1
