Hi all,

This one really has me stumped and would appreciate any suggestions to try to remedy this. A member of the admin team has a dual monitor setup, both the exact same model and both displaying 1920 x 1080. One of them is connected via DVI cable and one of them via HDMI cable into the PC's graphics card. Their right monitor (Labelled 1) is their main screen and the left monitor (2) is their secondary screen and they're using the extend projection setting. When they lock the computer and leave it for a bit the PC goes into sleep mode like any other PC would and the monitors both turn themselves off which is standard, nothing out of the ordinary there. The issue is when they return to their PC and try and wiggle the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to wake the PC so they can log back in the left secondary monitor powers on and it's just blank (because of extend) and the right main monitor just refuses to wake and display the standard login screen. They have to press the menu button or the power button on the monitor to get it to display again.

Things I've tried:

  • Installing a graphics card and updating the drivers(previously it was just using the inbuilt intel graphics)
  • Swapping the display cables
  • Checked both of the monitors menu's to see if there is a setting that is different but it's identical.

At my wits end so would appreciate any suggestions or ideas :o

I have a similar issue with a new Samsung large monitor I've bought to work with my Dell Windows 11 PC at home. Once in sleep mode a simple move of a mouse won't bring the monitor back on. It can sometimes take up to 2 minutes of bashing keyboard, moving mouse and turning monitor on and off to get the screen back on. Sometimes I even have to unplug the cable too. Nightmare....

I've had similar problems, both my monitors were switching themselves off randomly and going blank after I had to move office. Turns out one of the plug pins was loose which my IT support superglued in place.

What happens if you make the left hand monitor the main one?
Haven't tried that yet I'll give it a go and see what it does.

The login screen showed up on the left one which is expected but the right one still wouldn't wake. I'm out of ideas.

Even after login? I know my secondary one at home doesn't wake until I've logged in.

IIRC, being a bit OCD, I had to swap my work monitors around as there seems to be some sort of "pecking order" for waking up and I wanted the centre one to be the one I logged into.
