Personal Internet usage monitor

I need a gubbin that will monitor a broadband modem and tell me how much data is downloaded (read network interface)... it is to see if a friend can get a more povvy broadband package and save a couple of quid.

 

It needs to be free and it needs to be Windows-based. I know one exists but can I remember its name?

Do they only use the 1 PC with the connection or do they have a home LAN/desktop + laptop?

 

The problem I have found with Netmeter and the like is that they simply monitor traffic on one interface of your PC. If you have a home network and use wireless, it will consider *all* traffic to be internet traffic and can give you an useless view of what of your bandwidth you've used so far.

 

If they have only 1 PC this is fine, but add a few to it and you struggle to get accurate bandwidth readings. This has caused me to go over my own quota and be charged a few times! The best solution I know of for monitoring the actual router is PRTG but requires a machine to be monitoring it by SNMP.
