Morning all,

Trying to establish whether I can clear iPad passcodes through AC2 on a Mac when the devices are enrolled through jamF school.

Poking around I found some documentation about downloading the supervised identity from jamF and importing it with the hidden password which I have done and further trusted the certificate in the Keychain on the Mac and checked that the Organisation shows in the settings but when plugging in an iPad and choosing Advanced > Clear Passcode its telling me the unlock token is missing from the keychain and of course I can't create an unlock token as the iPad already has a passcode.

Reason i'm looking to do it this way is that we get quite a lot of students that forget their passcode and then turn off their device as part of the trying to remember/get around the time limit to try again and then when the iPad loads back up it has no WIFI connection so cannot clear through jamF anymore.

We have been putting iPads in this situation into DFU mode and then just resetting them.

Any help on this appreciated!

Can't be any help - but this issue drives me insane.

Don't understand my Apple doesn't let the wifi reconnect. They'll happily let mobile networks reconnect without the passcode, but not wifi, its a right pita.

Have you tired sharing the internet connection through the Mac? So that way it can get the connection to Jamf

Or we have purchased a lighting to ethernet adaptor which then lets it talk to Jamf via that (have to ensure you have the policy to allow usb devices whilst locked enabled on the iPad)

You sir are a legend! Was completely unaware that you could share internet connection from a MAC over USB iPad.

Just tested it and worked a treat.

Only seems to work if you have pre-trusted the MAC :(

we have a usb ethernet adapter hooked up to a usb hub then an ipad camera adapter allowing lightening to usb - with the ethernet adapter connected to our lan the ipads get an ip then connect out to JAMF without needing to go via a mac.

This has saved us so many times in the past, we use it at least once a week

I like the sound of this better and about to try out.

What do you use/need the ipad camera adapter for and what exactly is it?

Just to add to this, you can restore multiple iPads at once even through a USB hub. If you open as many Apple Configurator 2 windows as you have ipads to restore each one it seems to work brilliantly. Opening the windows means you're not restricted by the restoring dialogue box. Really averted my panic when I had a box of them not connecting to wireless today!

If you pussh out a supervision profile to all ipads and have this profile installed on your laptop AC2 should be able to connect without device approval - not tested this so cant confirm but thats the whole point of the supervision profile
