Jakeno13 Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Hi Guys, I'm after a little bit of advice we currently have a 2013 Exchange VM on site sat in hybrid mode. I have had nothing to do with the original process to get it in its current state. I have just adopted the mess and am noticing more and more issues with it the hybrid tool is currently failing to connect to 365 but I believe this may be down to the fact it hasn't been updated for a good while. I would like to decommission the VM and move the remaining mailboxes and roles up too 365 At the moment we cannot create Alias's in 365 or do a lot of simple admin tasks without using the Exchange VM Has anyone got any decent guides to do this Thanks Jake
chaplic Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 If you are using Azure AD Connect, and it sounds like you are, then your identity details will ALWAYS be mastered in AD (and Exchange 2013, sort of). Not sure what you mean by hybrid tool, Exchange 2013 will connect to O365 (and vice-versa) via SMTP to ship mail and via EWS for things like free-busy lookup. Directory info is (with minor exceptions ) AD> Azure AD Connect> Azure Active Directory > Exchange Directory
Jakeno13 Posted May 22, 2023 Author Posted May 22, 2023 @chaplic i have now managed to turn off the server and everything seems to be working ok so. I'm hoping the hard work has already been done Thanks Jake
chaplic Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Im not entirely sure what you mean by that, but best of luck!
kevin_lane Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 @Jakeno13 have you seen this ? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/decommission-on-premises-exchange 1
highsky Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 That's is doable, but with a catch: Removing the last Exchange Server from a Hybrid environment , https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/Exchange/manage-hybrid-exchange-recipients-with-management-tools
Jakeno13 Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses I believe I'm in the clear after further investigation it looks like my predecessors had completed the migration process. Reading through the guides provided there was no existence of any connectors in 365 and there was a couple of corrupted mailboxes left on the exchange server luckily after some testing these were not being used. The only thing left running was the Hybrid Configuration Wizard which was in a failure state i spent ages trying to reconnect this with no success I have also checked there is no DNS records with MX Toolbox After running through a few things i have now shut down the Exchange 2013 VM and its been off for about a week now and not causing any issues Thanks Jake Edited May 23, 2023 by Jakeno13
psydii Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Quick test: Miss Bloggs marries her bae. She is now Mrs Smith. Do your tools work for updating her email address and display name?
Jakeno13 Posted May 24, 2023 Author Posted May 24, 2023 If I amended the name in AD and ran a Sync then yes Thanks Jake
