genesis Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi We have PaperCut MF Version: 20.1.1 installed on our print server. Due to the recent Papercut Vulnerability, I am planning to upgrade to the latest version that fixes the issue. We push the PaperCut client to the workstation through group policy. If I upgrade the PaperCut to the latest version on the application server, do I need to update the client as well. Any help will be great. Thanks
Theldron Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi, when you say push, do you use the non install method, so they access it from a share, or do you install it on each client? If the non install method then it will automatically do this after the upgrade. If you install it on each client, then it will need updating.
genesis Posted April 26, 2023 Author Posted April 26, 2023 I don't manually install the PaperCut client on each of the worksation.Rather I copy the Papercut client to a share. On the group poicy- and on the workstation OU i have set a software installation policy policy pointing to the share. So when a PC is restarted the Papercut clients get updated on the workstation. I assume after upgrading the PaperCut to the latest version on Papercut application server , i need to copy the client folder (C:\Program Files\PaperCut MF\client) from Papercut application server to the share.
PaperCutterBrenda Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi there genesis, PaperCutter Brenda here! The user client software shouldn't need updating to get the security patches, but it's always good to stay up to date if you can. Hope that helps, and let us know if we can help out during your upgrade!
ITGURU Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Why do you need to copy the client to another share? We just point to the client exe that runs at login so whenever the server gets updated the clients just automatically run the new version client and keeps the old versions on the local disk.
thimon Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 We no longer deploy the client to computers. Just got in the way and found it delayed user logon. Users can still print as normal to the Follow-Me print queues. One less thing to think about.
PotNoodleTech Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Done mine last night and it's gone smoothly with just running the upgrade on the server. I was told the client update was not necessary for this patch and I was coming from V19 My client runs directly off the papercut server so next time users log on they get the new client anyways (assuming there is a new client).
