Basic Video Editor - need on par with Serif's version

Does anyone know of a basic video editor that is on par with Serif's movie editor software? We are (well, we're) using an old version of serif but since tightening up the share permissions on our file server it appears that Serif does not allow us to save the files anymore - it's to do with the NTFS and Share permissions.

 

We've tried DaVinchi, OpenShot and ShotCut but all are too advanced for our students.

Ye olde Windows Movie Maker is a little too basic for these students.

If Openshot is too complicated and Movie maker is too simple the only other one is maybe Photos legacy? That might be too simple again.

If you already pay for creative cloud then premiere rush is quite good and basic, media teacher settled on rush after Openshot and premiere pro as they said it was too complicated for GCSE & A Level.... (they said perfect software was capcut but was a pain to deploy and a bit sketchy)

I've just come back from a video-editing-for-marketing talk, video editors mentioned at that talk were:

 

Inshot

Shotcut

OpenShot

DaVinchi Resolve

Adobe Rush

GoPro Splice

Capcut

 

I think nearly all of those have already been mentioned, except maybe Splice, which might be worth a look.

 

Seemingly, the new Windows 11 version of Movie Maker is ClimpChamp.

 

There's also the online WeVideo - web-based, so no software to deploy, although not free (around £10 per user per year, I think).

I'm looking at CapCut today after a teacher asked for it to be installed. It goes fine through PDQDeploy but installs to a profile path. Any ideas on how to change the installation path as an install parameter?

We had a look and couldn't find a way, copying the directory to a new path breaks the installation - ended up changing to Adobe Premiere Rush (was a bit hesitant about CapCut in the first place due to owner and lack of information.)

 

Edit: looks like they have an offering on the windows store if that is any better for you

Do you have access to ipads? Lumafusion is brilliant and super easy to use.

 

Luckily have finally got Adobe creative cloud here and the basic and advanced version of Premier does the job.
