Im currently having similar issues aswell but Im finding certain websites do work but I believe this is due to our ISP

I had a problem here that for ages I thought was with the Smoothwall S8 box but actually happened to be in the upstream firewall.

 

The firewall was activating it's flood protection mechanism and blocking traffic from the Smoothwall. The time taken to restart the Smoothwall proxy was enough for the firewall to think the flood had stopped and allow connections again. Once I was aware of the firewall connection limit and increased it I've (touch wood) not seen the same problem occur since.

 

Obviously if you are using the Smoothwall as filter and firewall this won't help but if you have separate devices it might.
