What car tyres to get

been going through the MOT report and it says the front tyre are down to 3mm on the inside - not much better on the outside

 

which is below what I am happy with so I had to make a decision

 

thanks to everyone for their input

 

I checked out the reviews and ratings on various sites and finally went for Pirelli

 

best wet grip out of a lot and one of the best fuel economy at the same time

 

plus low noise

 

plus National have an offer on them if you buy 2 or more which brings the price down to just over the costs of the next group down

 

basically if I have an accident with the grandkids in the car then I have to be able to justify the tyres to myself

no-one else would judge me - but I would - I know what I'm like

 

 

so anyway - they are being fitted on Saturday

In last 10 years or so I have clocked some 250k miles up and down the motorway and country roads in all weathers and for years I have used mid range tyres, the majority was using Kumho tyres, I was getting above average for the tyre, they then upped their prices and my tyre dealership (local place but does lots around here, only branch) changed to Falken which they had sold for years but was their replacement, similar pricing and I am again getting good mileage out of these. I cannot fault either brand they have served me well all year around. I've had them on Clios, Leon's, Ibizas to name and now on my Octavia. I've used the same tyre all year around.

 

When I have had cars that have come with big brands like Pirelli or Bridgestone these have lasted a fration of the time. I swap tyres in pairs fronts/backs unless the other tyre is like new if I have to replace one, regularly get tracking checked as roads I used to travel on are shocking and that has how I've worked since passing my test some 17+ years ago.

 

I must admit I do run mine right down to the minimum unless I am travelling distance.

I should have mentioned that my annual mileage is normally about 4000 miles

 

last year it was up to nearly 6000 - due to a holiday touring Scotland - including Orkney - and more grand-kid sitting

 

but hence low mileage

 

which makes a difference

Years ago I had a Jazz - and it was horribly road-noisy. I put Michelins on it, and it made a huge difference.

 

Not sure what my current Civic has on it - they are round and black...

Funny that - mine are also on a Civic but mine are a little bit flatter at the bottom

Just replace all 4 on mine this weekend.

Im very much a bargain finder and never get cheap or used tyres. But will find the best tyre without breaking the bank

 

I bought 4 hankook prime 205/16. Very good in the wet and cost me £320 at kiwi fit with a 10% discount on the tyre.
