Speach to Text Software for Exams

Hi, we have student that is allowed to use Speech to Text software for her AQA and OCR exams.

 

Does anyone have any experience with this? or any recommendations?

We just use the Office built-in tools nowadays, works perfectly as long as you've got a decent mic.

In one of my previous schools we used Dragon by Nuance (Dragon - The World's #1 Speech Recognition Software | Nuance UK). Seemed to work pretty well, but no idea about how expensive/cheap it is by comparison and also it was a number of years ago (2018) so things may have moved on since then.

At a Google Workspace school, I was thoroughly impressed how fast and accurate Chrome's implementation was. The pupil will of course need to spell and grammar check. Errhmm - subject title! It reminds me of the time someone tried to sell a Texas Instruments 'Speak and Spill' device. I had to conclude they were selling because it didn't work for them.

Do you give your students internet access? I've just tried Office dictation however it needs internet access to work. We have been disabling WIFI on the exam computers to prevent potential cheating up until this point.

We use NaturalReader Text to Speech Software Download (naturalreaders.com) here. Just drag and drop in the document you want it to read and away it goes. It also does not require any internet access. Edited January 4, 2023 by Dragnog

I disable Edge and internet explorer using applocker (allowing Speech to Text to still work in office 2019)

Its the other way round that I need. So the student can speak and it will write the text.
