dapaulio Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Looking for assistance, recently taken over a school that was gifted a number of DFE Laptops Lenovo 81m8 2nd Gen. Unfortunately the previous ICT never reset the BIOS Passwords on the devices when the scheme came to an end and now I have 45devices that are no better than paperweights. I have all the Paperwork detailing our ownership of the devices and their serial numbers but nothing detailing the BIOS passwords. I have tried emailing [email protected] that i have found on the internet to recover the documented bios passwords but i imagine this email is no longer monitored as 6weeks since my first email and still no response. Tried resetting BIOS by unplugging CMOS Battery but not had much luck Has anyone got other contacts, examples of DFE BIOS Passwords they were given. Lenovo forum is not much help having copied this post in their chat. Was hoping Lenovo would give me a magic assist in making these devices usable again. All documentation can be provided on request proving ownership of the devices Thanks in Advance
Steve21 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 It should be [email protected] now, but will see if we had any Lenovo ones as would be on our list, but can't say I remember any but will have a look! Steve 1
dapaulio Posted December 7, 2022 Author Posted December 7, 2022 Thanks yes that address I recognise and realised that my address I sent to auto responded saying it had forwarded onto that address. And that someone will respond in 3 days but 6 weeks on forwarding the same email each week and no response
mitchell1981 Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 (edited) This is worth a try: https://bios-pw.org/ Worked with most of our Government issued laptops. It doesn't specify Lenovo, but it still might work. You have to get the password wrong three times and it should give you a code which you can put into the website. Yep, this is how I did most of mine too. Some will work with the serial number though, other work with the hash code it gives after 3 incorrect attempts. Its a PITA and can sometimes take a long time but worth it if they become usable devices afterwards 1
dapaulio Posted December 7, 2022 Author Posted December 7, 2022 Yea this is how I managed to back door in to all the other models. Unfortunately this isn’t available for the Lenovos
