Morning,

We have purchased a SumUp Solo card reader so we can take card payments occasionally. It doesn't need to be on the Wi-Fi, but the mobile signal around here isn't great so I'd like it to be. You can't specify any PROXY settings in it, or static IP so I'd like to give it a reserved IP in DHCP. It presents itself in DHCP with a massive MAC address (36 characters!) though, and a different one each times it connects to the Wi-Fi. The first half is the same each time. As it's presenting differently each time I can't reserve it.

Anyone else got one? Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Thank you

Stuart

You say massive MAC address sounds like your getting confused with IPv6 address.

Is the MAC address not on the back of it or the box it came in? Can you say tether it to your mobile phone and look into the hotspot menu and get the MAC address there is you are really struggling?

Couldn't see the MAC on the box, it certainly isn't on the device itself.

It most certainly is not IPv6

I'll give SumUp chat a go, thanks for that.

We've just set-up a SumUp card reader in our school - though we run a transparent proxy, so we don't need to enter the details.

I would contact SumUp, but I cannot see a way to add these details easily on our reader - or a static IP.

What reader do you have?

We ended up connecting them all to a hotspot and reading the MAC Addresses that way as there doesn't seem to be a way to view them otherwise. If you use the hotspot feature built into windows that seems to be the easiest as it lists all the devices connected to it with the IP and MAC.

Edit - Had no luck finding which addresses to unblock for our firewall every person I've spoke to at SumUp has basically said they don't know.

I'm having the same problem, changed the dhcp lease into a reservation but it has a crazy long MAC. I then decided to ping the IP and then use ARP -a to see the MAC of that IP, entered that in the reservation but no luck.

Is it now working ok since finding the MAC through the hotspot?

Thanks
