[ipad] Can I move ipads from one mdm to another?

Long story short, Welsh Government provide intune FOC to schools to manage devices, until this last batch of ipads I've always used Mosyle Manager. But with cost saving in mind I thought I'd just use the free option provided to us, WHAT A MISTAKE!

 

Intune is probably the worse software I've ever come across to manage iPads, my own fault assuming someone with some sense would have tested the suitability of intune as a mdm for schools.

 

Anyway, can I remove the ipads from intune and add them to Mosyle ? Anyone tried, any caveats ?

Hi Si,

 

It should be as easy as swapping them over in Apple School Manager - when they're re-enrolled (reset or wiped) it'll pick up the new MDM.

We did the same thing moving over from Meraki to Intune

Yeah, you can always re-register an iPad with another MDM.

 

What you can't do is move it live; the iPad will need factory-reset to pick up the new DEP profile from eg Mosyle.

Yes, I moved all of mine from Lightspeed to JAMF a few years ago. Ideally you will need to wipe them but in Lightspeed it was possible to remotely delete the profile from the iPad, and then I could enroll them in JAMF by scanning a QR code.

This puts them into the new MDM but the profile can be removed manually so it's not ideal.
