Dell 755 NICs and Ghost 7.5

We have just had a Optiplex 755 delivered with the intel 82566DM-2 NIC.

 

Im having trouble booting into ghost and getting the Unicast and multicast options to show. I am booting off a USB key, and the boot to the menu from the USB key works fine, and ghost boots. We have an autoexec.bat file on the USB, which is here

In the folders on the USB key, i have got a folder called DELL755 and in here is the e1000.dos file and protocol.ini (both from the folder from the intel site), protman.dos, netbind.com, protman.exe and DIS_PKT.dos.

 

Can anyone help?

UPDATE::: DONE IT

 

If anyone uses ghos the way we do use the attached file.

 

For future referance use this protocol.ini file with the e1000.dos file.

Timbo343 would you mind zipping the contents of the bootable usb stick?. Weve brought the same machines and id like to do away with the external floppy drive booting and disk swapping. ive made the USB bootable with the "HP Drive key Boot utility"

Here it is

 

I am trying to get Optiplex 755s to boot and I am having simsilar problems mentioned above. When I saw your post I had hoped that your Protocol.INi would solve my problems but I can't download it [Error message: The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted.]

 

The error message when I boot from my disk is as follows:

 

PRO0008E: Invalid decimal digit in PROTOCOL.INI file

 

and later in the boot process:

 

Error: 7906 unable to open PROTMAN$

 

[Although I think that the second error follows on from the first]

 

I have looked for posts about this error. All I get is that I need to remove periods (.) from my IP address. Trouble is I am not specifying the IP address anywhere so I can't remove the periods.

 

Can anyone who has the contents of Tim's PROTOCOL.INI post them in a reply as text so that I can test if his solution works for me?

Ok. I have now downloaded a copy of PROTOCOL.INI [used Safari and not Explorer]

 

I now get:

 

Error: Unable to locate the PCI LAN adapter.

The following are possible causes:

1. The system may not support the PCI bus.

2. The PCI adapter may not be properly inserted in the slot.

3. Some of the PCI adapter resources in configuration space may be invalid.

 

I am not using a PCI network card, rather it is on the motherboard. I have, however, used the Dell website to download the correct driver for this network card. Any ideas?

Loaded the latest e1000.dos and downloaded your protocol.ini with Safari (same error as posted when using IE), and this all did the trick for my 755 / Ghost 7.5 thumbdrive combo.

Note--I find it useful to edit/view/print the PC files on my Mac (TextEdit), then copy them onto the thumbdrive.

Sorry to bring tis subject back up again.. but even though i created the USB boot disk, im having a problem with only the 755s on Ghost 7.5. I dunno if anyone else is having this problem, but when i try and download a multitask image to more than 1 machine, it throughs a wobbler to the point where you you click send. The speed of the download will max to about 64mbps, but if we setup individual images the speed will max to abou t750mbps but then we can only have about 10 images running at any one time. These machines are the only machines that have this problem as we have about 7 other different machines, and I'm guessing it is something to do with the driver we have got. I think the speed for the network card is too high and needs to be set for a 100mb connection.

 

Can anyone help me??

My answer to the issues I reported in this thread was to move to a PXE boot and use a 2003 server off the network. Far from ideal but within the constraints that I am working in I have to accept it.

I have just sorted the problem due to the speeds that download the image to the machines. I had to add an extra line to the protocol.ini file.

Tim. I tried check your zipped file but it comes up as damaged at my end. Besides the protocol.ini, I would also like to see the USB key files. I haven't got a USB key to boot any of my Dells yet. Keep using CDs, but this GX755 is being a bear.

Could you please send them my direction too?

Hey Tim.

 

I tried to view your protocol.zip file, but my corporate supplied PKZip kept telling me the contents were corrupt.

 

But still not finding what I need anywhere to get my ghost boot CD to work, I tried WinRAR and badda-bing I have a file! Always something silly.

 

I haven't tried USING it yet, but for sure I got it unzipped.

 

If Tim or anyone could send me the USB boot zip, please , I would appreciate it very much

Thank you very much for your protocol.ini file. This has been quite the hair raising experience for me lately because I am imaging (75) Dell Latitude E6500's and I could not get the driver to recognize for the life of me.
