How to remove access to Sharepoint files

We provide IT support to a UK primary school that uses Microsoft 365, we have inherited this role from a previous IT support company that they used.

 

When the school's staff login via office.com, they see the usual front screen, but in this case there is also a "Shared Files" button, that provides a shortcut to their Sharepoint folders. I've attached a screenshot of this screen.

 

This is fine for most of the staff, but there are some that should not have access to the Sharepoint folders.

 

My question is a) does anyone know how to remove the Share files button, either entirely, or for specified users ? b) is it possible to restrict access to Sharepoint, either to specified users, or to exclude specified users ?

For A: I'm not sure, never seen a link there.

 

For B: Yes, though it would depend on how it's configured. You can restrict access at various levels. I.e at the site level & the content level.

 

If you click on the Cog wheel in the top right after clicking the shortcut - site permissions - Advanced Permissions. This is the site level permissions.

If you click on 'site contents' via the cog wheel this is the contents page, should be a doc library within here - highlight over the doc library click the 3 dots - settings - permissions for this doc library.

 

I usually use read permissions for the site level & edit for document libaries for specific groups of staff via security groups.

 

Note: By default the library picks up the site permissions unless you turn that off.
