Everyone's cutting back based on the forthcoming recession. Musk's view is keep the people who work the hardest and want to change the world, if you prefer a cushy job go somewhere else. It's worked for him in the past, and it pays well. The whole point of software is to make the computer do the work for you.

One of my favorite quotes from him is that he makes people work hard, but never asking more than he asks of himself.

 

And lets face it, if you are working at twitter for 200k a year as a mid-level software developer, you should be working hard really :D

Yes but there is a differnce between choosing to work hard and forcing people to work above thier normal hours. Some CEO's get paid millions and don't work nearly as hard as the lower level workers. Furthermore the salary is market rate. They are not paying them this amount out of the kindness of thier hearts.

No one's forcing you to work hard, you can always quit.

I really don't understand why people idolise billionaires, especially ones that openly fight workers rights/unions etc.

Very controversial working environments, always getting involved in situations to stay in the limelight then reacting abusively when it's taken badly.

There's a reason he has a thread on multiple forums that I visit & yet no other billionaire does & it's not because he's saving humanity.

 

 

Sacking off half a work force isn't commendable, should we commend P&O ferries?

Then you factor in his political leanings and the affect that could have on twitter.. another Parler really?

The amount of abuse/hate speech has soared 500% oh and he's sacked most of the moderation team.. forward thinking!

The blue tick situation is utterly comical & shows there's no genuine plan.

There is a diffrence between overworking people and working hard. People don't live to work.

Just in case anyone was wondering about the source of "Dozens", I suspect it's from the "Daily Mail", so that passes the recent phenomenon (mahna mahna) for fact checking ;)

He picked them, organised them, and paid them.

 

Obviously no one person does anything, but he make it work. No one bothered to gather together and do it without him.

 

Also he (organised people to) halve(^d) the cost of batteries, and made grid storage a thing.

 

In terms of individual impact to save the planet, he's probably top.

Yeh, I honestly don't care if he's a billionaire or has £1 in his pocket, its all just paper money in shares anyway. I'm just impressed with his achievements and plans for the future.

 

I think he's done more for climate change, transportation, AI, Manufacturing and Human exploration in space than anyone else on this planet.... Ever! If that's not something to be impressed with, then I am not sure what is.

 

To me, he's taking action on the things that governments, unions and legacy companies have dithered and ultimately failed it.

Right you lot this is straying well into political forum territory and therefore I am going to have to ask you to change how you post in this thread.

 

The facts are that Elon Musk has taken over twitter, fired a load of staff, rehired a few, wants people to pay for blue ticks, is killing off parody accounts if they don’t include the word parody and is now using an Official label.

 

Speculation and discussion outside the facts about EL’s business methods, etc is not permitted.

 

Please keep this thread to topic - news about Twitter. News about Mastodon/other platforms benefitting is also permitted in here

Makes sense, but I'm wondering where Twitter fits in to that. I guess Mars will need data centres and Internet engineering.

I have also read (can't recall where) that he is ready [keen/eager] to make the one way trip to Mars.

Elon joined a voice chat with a few other top twitter executives and explained things really well.

It took him 20 seconds to explain about his mission to use Twitter for good and solve some of humanities communication issues.

 

Also really interesting the discussion on why the $8 a month has been introduced and the benefits from a spam/bad actor point of view.

 

I've never seen the spaces feature on twitter, but it's pretty cool!
