Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC query

One of my schools has 4 x Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC (the square ones). There are being managed using Unifi Controller 5.6.42.

 

The server was recently upgraded from Microsoft Server 2012 R2 and I foolishly omitted to take a backup of the Ubiquiti data. The upshot is that I need to reset the devices so that I can re-adopt them.

 

The devices were installed before I took over the school, and I have not come across the square ones before.

 

My question is, how do I get them off their mountings so that I can reset them?

Not familiar with the square ones, but I suspect a paperclip pushed into a release hole on one side of it will allow the device to be slid off its mount plate.

There's a tab at the bottom. But we found a few years ago when replacing them that they do tend to cease onto the brackets and need a fair bit of force to remove.

 

Definitely time to replace them though , they'll be long out of support by now

I've found that, too.

 

Re resetting, I can't remember having to do that. I thought they just showed up in the console as unadopted devices. IIRC, if you know the IP addresses for the devices, you should be able to SSH into them and reset from the comfort of your office. Guess it depends on how many you need to do.

If they are mounted to a tile it is often easier to undo the nuts from the top and drop the bracket down.

I used Fing to determine the IP addresses and then used SSH to reset them.

 

Unfortunately the school can't afford to replace them, but we're hoping to get some money from the Connect the Classroom initiative.
