New to Sims - help on permissions.

I am new to Sims and need help on permissions. MOre and more i get asked to help other staff with their sims roles. I have the sysman ID and password. But every time there is a update and things don't work for certain staff i get roped in to help. Now, my knowledge is getting better but one thing confuses me.

 

I thought that the Sysman account has access to everything in Sims (not FMS) but the more and more i try and use it to solve problems i find i, logged in as sysman dont get certain menus other staff do. Is there an account that has access to everything? Should the SYSMan account have?

 

Can I set a account up to have access to everything or is this bad practice?

I know that these is an account that has access to everything... and i mean everything to be honest its like a Super Admin Account.

 

I would of though if you are managing it then the account you have been given should already have that access..

 

Will post tomorrow when i get into work i will ask our NM that's if someone dnt beat me to it lol.. :\

 

But there is definitely an account that does have higher access then u actually have at the moment.

This is a really important area. A system manager should not automatically have access to everything as there is lot of sensitive data held in SIMS for example staff salaries.

 

Typically if a workstation does not upgrade that is not a SIMS permission issue it is that of the network user and how the workstation has been configured. If you use our standard SIMSPERM.BAT when the workstation is commissioned you won't need to give your network users special rights.

As stated sysman does not have permissions to everything but it has the ability to grant access if you so wished. Personally i think that sysman should not be used as your own sims account, and instead you should use your account, granting yourself System Manager access. Then you can assign yourself the roles you want to grant additional access.
