Jobos Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 We are running our CCTV using Hikvision NVRs and Hikvision dome cameras mostly DS-2CD2155FWD-I. Since spring one of the outdoor cameras has gone out of focus which I thought was because rain had got inside the camera and fogged the cover but after removing the cover no moisture was found and even with the cover off the image is still blurry. Is there any control over the focus as I'm unable to see any adjustment inside?
cburrows Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 We had something similar a couple years ago, got out the company who we pay a support contract with and they ended up replacing the camera. was an internal one too!

I thought it might need replacing but in our case there isn't any support so it will be me up a ladder
Sonic007 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Sounds more like a hardware issue but maybe worth just doing a firmware update to see if it helps.
snagrat Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I’ve had this before. Firmware didn’t help but a full factory reset did.
TomFreeman Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Depends on the model of the camera but if it has digital focus, you can right click on the camera enable PTZ control (even if its not a PTZ camera) and then adjust the focus via the PTZ control
mikes Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 They're garbage cameras, 5 of ours have the left-right pan fail so they can only pan up and down. 5 more had the focus issue - they get stuck out of focus, if you zoom in and out you'll find a spot where it is perfectly in focus but very zoomed in. Firmware update didn't help, factory reset fixed 1 of them but over time it got blurry and blurrier again and this time a factory reset did nothing. We had to replace the units, cheap and nasty Chinese stuff. These were PTZ cameras (if you log in via the webinterface you can control the PTZ from there). Never had it with a non PTZ unit.
slugshead Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 You get what you pay for..... Plan for a decent system, Mobotix/AXIS, netctrl guys sell the mobotix stuff, it's top notch kit. Had multiple units in a pretty harsh environment for 10 years with zero issues
Jobos Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 I've done the factory reset and the firmware update but still the same. I've already told the head it needs replacing so it's at his door and I'm not that bothered if it stays blurred as I don't fancy changing it anyway. 1

Won't that be a job for your site team or a 3rd party surely?
Jobos Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 I think it comes under the heading of job creep as we have started maintaining them already.
mikes Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 I think it comes under the heading of job creep as we have started maintaining them already. Same here it's the usual "don't worry you won't have to touch it, the site team / local authority / some wierd contractor will do ALLLL the work" but as soon as the first minor problem appears they are at your door. This is why it is important as soon as the FIRST call regarding this stuff, no matter how minor, appears, you should decline it and say "We have an agreement with X so I don't want to touch it incase I do something wrong". Advice I did not follow now I have the cameras to sort out. Anyway if you have a very long coridoor you can always put the broken fuzzy camera at the end of it, zoom in to where it gets clear, and use it that way. Otherwise it's only good for the trash. 1
