google induction for new staff

Dear all,

Recently we have moved to google for education and I am being asked to produce a brief overview of google induction.

 

 

• How to log into Google Apps for education
  
• How to access homework via Google Classroom
  
• How to check email (via GMAIL).
  

 

 

Has anyone else done anything similar and would you be happy to share it with me?

I would recommend sign-posting your users as much as possible to Google's online documentation. It's well written, nice and concise, and aimed at end users. More importantly, it will remain current with the latest features and changes.

Spent time in the past doing videos, how-to's etc only for Google to change the GUI, render my guide out of day - but due to changing roles etc no time to update the guide.

It's also worth pointing out that it hasn't been Google Apps for Education for quite some time now - it's Google Workspace and therefore Google Workspace for Education.

 

As others have said, Google's own resources are excellent.

Just to follow on from that, I'd also recommend being a bit of a terminology pedant when it comes to talking and writing about Google stuff. It can feel quite clunky to be writing Google Classroom class, Google Calendar calendar or Google Docs document several times in an email, but I reckon it does help to eliminate ambiguity for people. Google like their obvious product names, but it does mean that you have to be careful when writing any guidance or instructions.

I always point them to what I call the "waffle" icon in the top right corner and tell them everyithing is accesible from there.
