I’m looking to buy a wheelchair for my mum, can anyone recommend me?

Its difficult to recommend one as there is such a variety of chairs and it would depend on the requirements of the user.

 

When we got one for my father we went to a local mobility specialist so we could see what was available, work out what my father wanted it for and try some on for size.

Just adding to this, my Granny went to a mobility specialist too and they let her trial different wheelchairs/scooters during a month to see what works.

 

They also do regular maintenance on it for minimal costs. Plus loan one whilst hers is in the shop.

wheelchairs are difficault to recommend as they all very in spec.

 

for example my dad has 3 diffrent wheelchairs depending on the day for how he is (has MS and parkinsons) one is motorised, 1 is manual and the last one is a full on road legal mobility scooter (more like mobility tank)

 

it would be best to go to a specalist and find the right type, and strength for weight

as mentioned it is like asking what car should i get - i would get a referral from GP to a physio who would then refer onto your local wheelchair services who will be able to (eventually get her one which will suit her needs. or if this is just to help her get about when walking is too tiring then you need to decide on how this will be used - you can you to a mobility centre and try a variety - from lightweight foldable ones to full on scooters.

When my Mother-in-Law was ill we borrowed one from the Red Cross

 

WHen I picked it up they said that they sell refurbished ones for reasonable rates and if I needed one then we could return the one we had and swap it for an identical one that had been refurbished and they would knock the rental costs off the price

 

Might be worth trying them
