Transferring course material from archived classroom to a new one in Google by batch

Hi

 

We beginning with Salamander this year, archiving all classrooms via GAM and letting Salamander create new ones

 

I’ve had staff asking how they merge old archive classroom material to the new ones

 

Is there an easy way to do this selectively via batching ?

They need to use the "reuse post" feature as and when they need to share it, rather than trying to clone their content en masse into new classrooms.

We've got a couple of teachers that have created a classroom for themselves (all year 6 teachers for example with no students) which they put their course materials in. They can then re-use these posts across their other classrooms and even use them again next year.

It’s a shame GC there’s no central admin to do this ( I suppose we won’t know how much to transfer to be fair)

You can do it in GAM, but I wouldn't be doing that. I'd archive the classes and then get them to reuse posts from Archived classrooms.

Some wants to use the old archive classroom and ignore or archive the new one created by salamander, I don’t see a reason for that since Salamander will be unarchiving the proper one and teachers will have to add students or remove students manually (like kids join and live mid year?)

That isn't how it works.

They need to learn that they create fresh classes for fresh groups and then reuse posts.

 

Their logic is "we've posted all this into here already" but all you'll end up doing is presenting previous year's work with previous year's dates.

Staff Using old archive classes seems counterproductive to me, makes Salamander pretty redundant if they ignore the new classes created …

Here, for multi-year coursework heavy courses staff re-use last years classes.

 

For everything else they use that years new classes, and re-use only occasional bits and bobs from archived classes.

 

Though I am talking about Salamander/Teams rather than Classroom, but I imagine the broad principle remains.

Ah that might be what certain teachers mean (I have conference call with head of ict to clarify )

 

So in your case, multi year heavy coursework classes you will setup Teams not to create a new class? If it’s not a huge number of classes reused I can work with the staff that way

Large school so it's quite a few classes. Salamader/SDS provisions new ones anyway, they just ignore them and reanimate the archived class.

 

We rename provisioned classes where we know they will be required multi-year. This is to ensure everybody can identify them quickly and differentiate them from the disposable year-by-year classes.
