cmwillo Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 hi the company who now supports our IT in school wants to blitz our existing ipads and use Jamf to manage them. All well and good except we have copies of a very expensive app installed and apparently there is a problem because the app is associated with an apple ID and jamf doesn't support Apple ID's. Has anyone else come across this and is there a fix?? I am in contact with the developers of the app but don't hold out much hope that they will be able to help. TIA Christine
djm968 Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 (edited) Depends of the type of account that was used to purchase the apps. If it was purchased using an Apple VPP account, you can invite the account into Apple School Manager and you should be able to get access to the apps. Jamf supports Apple School Manager so that it shouldn't be an issue. However, if the app was purchased using a personal ID, unfortunately AFAIK, there is no way of getting these into ASM and your MDM JAMF - Apple School Manager https://www.jamf.com/lp/apple-school-manager-pro-school/?gclid=CjwKCAjwq5-WBhB7EiwAl-HEkupiJKmpH10LVlacAV6YkhTuVN9uq6HbbQMpVNYxpIZ67n7E4E1Y2hoCELQQAvD_BwE Apple School Manager https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208257 Edited July 8, 2022 by djm968
cmwillo Posted July 8, 2022 Author Posted July 8, 2022 I think the business manager did purchase with a Apple VPP account. How can I check?
djm968 Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 The business manager would've received a Volume Purchase Program invoice to the email address of the apple VPP account that was used for the app purchase. I'm not sure if there is any other way to check TBH, other than inviting the account to join your Apple School Manager.
tmoon-mint Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 I suspect what they mean is that this app was purchased using redemption codes back in the old VPP days before managed distribution was a thing. If this is the case the codes can only be migrated if they are unredeemed. Migrate from redemption codes to managed distribution – Apple Support (AU)

With Personal Apple ID's the apps belongs to the end user not the school, so the app can not be reclaimed if the end user leaves the school. If the app is 100% cloud based then no data would be lost when the iPad gets reset and you can edit/change the login for the new user. Has anyone else come across this and is there a fix?? I am in contact with the developers of the app but don't hold out much hope that they will be able to help. TIA Christine
