Recovering data from raid array on failed server

We have an old server which we used as a media store for photos and videos. The server has just died, which I'm not bothered about but would like to get some of the data of the hard drives. I know I can't just isolate a drive and try to read it. Is there any way I can use another device to read the whole raid array so that I can get to the data?

What server and what RAID card was it running.

 

TBH It prob won't be without any risk so prepare for the worst and any better will be a bonus.

It was an old server, probably 15 years old, I have no idea what version of Windows server or RAID card. The server itself is an HP ProLiant ML115 if that's any help.

I had one of those many years back but cannot remember what happened to it. I think I might of given it away even. It had a real basic intergrated RAID. I may of even used the raid functionality within windows and had the OS/boot on a single disk. I may of even set one up similar many years back for media under the understanding that we did not have the ability to back up the media on it. Edited June 14, 2022 by Davit2005

If it were me... and you have no backups of the data... and the old server can't be coaxed into life... then i'd try building another server, get it running... and then add the raid card from the dead server, get its drivers working ok. then add the drives from the raid to the 'new' server, connecting the drives to the raid card in the same order they were before. It may come back to life... raid configs are sometimes held on one of the drives.

You don't want to get into any of the 'create raid' options, obviously...! But there may be a 'recover raid config from disc' option amongst the raid card bios settings.

 

You can try a google of 'recover raid from *make / model or raid card*... might reveal something... there is probably some magic that a linux guru could do on a linux box with the raid... but that's way out of my knowledge...

 

as @Davit2005 has said, expect to get nothing back, anything you do will be a bonus.
