Anyone else seen the monetisation schemes they've pulled off with this? Never seen anything like it, although I don't often play mobile games

This is the exact video I was going to post as soon as I saw the thread title.

We all knew Diablo Immortal would be.. egregious.. with it's microtransactions when it was announced to not be on PC. The fact that they later decided to (poorly, at that!) port it to PC notwithstanding, it was announced as mobile-only.

We also know how greedy Blizzard were becoming after their success at monetising Overwatch.

I never thought it would be *this* bad.

I'm very surprised Microsoft hasn't leaned some influence in here to reduce the blatant nickel and diming they're doing.

Thankfully, I've never been a fan of this franchise, but there are several things I love that could go this way if this is successful, so I hope it isn't.

As a big fan of Diablo 3 I really like Immortals. I haven't spent a penny on it, yet I've got a good mobile game on my iPad that has no adverts and lets me play for <10 minutes at a time without penalising me.

Agreed that I find the monetisation a little "in-your-face" but I have not felt the need to spend any money yet. Diablo was always a grindy game & I have no problem spending time playing it to get better, without opening my wallet.

I think people are getting a bit bent out of shape over their game franchise hitting the mobile market... and monetisation

The games solid and fun, the monetisation whilst bad in a pc game world is relitively tame by mobile standards imo.

Having seen D:I's monetisation, I really don't think it is 'tame' for the mobile market.

Also, even if it were, so?

"I'm lucky they only chopped my hand off, in the next city over you'll lose your entire arm!"

Nobody wants the game (or any game) to stop being fun, we just want them to stop using predatory manipulation methods, gambling mechanics, a huge focus on 'whaling', FOMO, and a myriad of other underhanded tactics to prey on people.

The mobile game market is a travesty. I've given up trying with it to be honest. The sheer volume of games that basically require a constant stream of microtransactions to play makes it not worth it. Diablo buying into that market, rather than simply being a good game, on mobile makes it just as bad as the rest.

I agree, but people are dragging giablo to the front and saying its _the worst_ when theres plenty of examples of games that are actually worse. Netease should never have been involved really as theyre one of the worst offenders.

There was a thread on reddit that did a pretty good job at highlighting the systems that arent present so there must have been some conflict between the companies

Totally disagree with this take for a few reasons. I would hardly call a choice between £80,000 or 10 years of game time to complete tame but even if it was it still doesnt make it right and regulation on this sort of thing cannot come soon enough.

Sadly with any game that has any form or micro transactions in (even full priced console/PC releases) the games economy and in game mechanics will always be balanced around it to try and force players to become payers. Sure there are lots of people myself included that have the willpower to say no to these tactics but there are also many many people vulnerable to gambling like mechanics and addiction that dont.

If a game is banned in the Netherlands and Belgium you know its bad because this usually means the publisher has refused to publish the odds for their "lootboxes" which is because the odds are woefully low and anti consumer.
