Google Workspace Backup

I am looking into options for backing up our Google Workspace, but for the life of me I just don't understand the pricing models.

Cubebackup is pretty self explanatory number of users, provide your own storage, but I just don't understand Veeam's offering and I am awaiting a reply from Backupify.

Our Google usage amount's to about 700GB.

Anyone using Veeam to backup their Google Workspace and can help to explain?

Throwing another option in the ring, if you have a QNAP or Synology NAS, you can backup Google Workspace back to on-premise, for free, using their native apps (Boxafe/Active Backup). Edited June 7, 2022 by colly72

We are waiting on a company called SysCloud who price their business on licensing staff. Students & service accounts are free which made the pricing very attractive.

 

We are waiting for them to sort their GDPR out as they are an American company.

 

Once they sort it out will be be using them to backup our google data which will be hosted in the UK on the Amazon S3 servers.

 

At the moment we are using a synology box to backup key data for our school but the MAT are looking at a whole trust deployment.

From what I understand, the GDPR has been sent over to our DPO who I hope are reviewing it - I hope it passes!

 

I was talking with a company this morning who strangely enough are looking at trailing SysCloud at 15:00 today to see how it manages to back up 15,000 accounts so i'm waiting to hear back from this company as they too were very surprised at how cheap SysCloud could deliver Cloud backup - it does seem like SysCloud are very educational focused.

Using Datto here, but only licensing for staff members. We're not backing up students' accounts: didn't seem cost-effective. Doing it that way, we still get all of our shared drives protected.

Not sure you would need or want to backup all student data? It will backup all shared drives on any amount.

SysCloud have finally presented their GDPR to our DPO and our DPO have ok'd it. There is some things that need to be done on the document but if you ask SysCloud for a copy of the GDPR policies you will see what you have to complete.

Given the new RPA DfE requirement of "offline backups" I decided to not go with the Synology NAS for our Google Backup.

 

I'm using Spinbackup which is hosted elsewhere, immutable, no backups can be deleted, retention and data centre all set by you etc.

 

It was so ridiculously easy to setup and get going. It's user licenced so I got 250 licences and only going for shared drives and teachers. Made a deal on price and got extra storage to equate for how large our workspace storage is (12.5 TB atm)

Does the Immutable part get over the 'Offline' requirement? I couldn't find any 'evidence' for the powers at be, that this would be acceptable.

If your immutable storage is being hosted by an always online on-site system, and that system gets compromised, then your immutable storage is at risk. If your immutable storage is being hosted by a cloud storage provider, then it's a different story: a compromise of your own on-site systems is not going to be posing the same level of risk.

No, Its too expensive for us, so were getting a Synology NAS.

No, we are trying to get a trial from them but it seems all email communication from 19th October seems to have stopped from them, granted that they have been chasing me for a trail but i have had to have discussions internally though now i'm wanting a trail because internal discussions have agreed for a SysCloud trail, SysCloud seem to have disappeared.

 

We are trailing Acronis however their pricing model is very expensive and doesn't offer unlimited storage.

 

Possibly looking at Spanning now. It's a shame that syscloud aren't responding because i would have liked to have seen how backing up and restoring Google classroom works.
