Hi,

Just wondering what everyone's using to enable their students (ages 11 to 16) to edit videos? Our students mostly use Chromebooks and we've been recommended WeVideo a few times, but we're open to suggestions (for both Windows software and Chromebook compatible software).

Thanks!

these two edugeek posts are worth a look:

and slightly older:

I don't think Chromebooks would work in this scenario as they have very little internal storage... and generally not much CPU power... for anything more than 'a cut and trim', you start to need some serious hardware...

Personally i use Avid Media Composer, but i'm ex BBC so that's what i was used to... most have a fairly steep learning curve...

Yeah but if you use a web based editor all that is done by the Server right? I guess you could use a SD card to get around the local storage issue or just upload to the webservice on a teacher's beefier machine. Then once it's uploaded the local resources are irrelevant.

Certainly for WeVideo all the video storage is held server-side. There'll be a bit of caching client-side, but local storage shouldn't be an issue. I seem to remember you can even record from a laptop's webcam (or, indeed, any camera you can plug in via a USB adaptor) straight to a video project if you have a reasonable Internet connection. I think a good amount of processing is done server-side as well, so you don't need that powerful a device, although having something reasonably up-to-date is probably going to give you a smoother user experience.

Hey there! Apologies for the late response, but I thought I'd share some recommendations. For video editing on Chromebooks, WeVideo is indeed a popular choice with its server-side video storage and recording capabilities. Another option I stumbled upon while browsing online is an automatic video editor I found. It offers features like adding audio to your videos, and I came across a helpful guide on their website: https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/automatic-video-editor.html/. It might be worth checking out! While I'm new to this forum, I'm excited to contribute. Good luck with finding the right software for your students' video editing needs! Edited by jodebrode
