flashsnaps Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Mother is Outraged... I ask, where was the classroom supervision? Mum outraged as son accesses p--n at school | KentOnline| News What a joke, this happens everyday - theres always going to be sites out there that bypass filters. Whats supervision? Never heard of that..........doesn't exist here
SpuffMonkey Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man - is this not where we have the wrong slant on the world = a kid searches for and prints out pron when he should be working - but its the school, not the kid, who gets a clip round the ear (metaphorically)
linkazoid Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 She obviously has nothing better to do... maybe the child should not be looking for porn in school.
pallen Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 lol, cant even get to the article here as its blocked:p
srochford Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Mother is Outraged... I ask, where was the classroom supervision? Do you seriously believe that any teacher is able to supervise everything that every pupil does all the time? I've no idea what exactly happened here - it could be that the teacher concerned wasn't doing their job properly but this is the kind of thing which is very, very difficult to prevent. I doubt there's a single school in the country where anyone knows what's happening at every minute in every classroom (and I don't actually think we would want that to happen!) The head's comments that she's going to keep the IT room closed until she can be sure it's safe are just the sort of thing designed to keep the papers happy - there's no way you can do that short of just having a basic whitelist of sites which the children are allowed to use - and even then, some parents wouldn't be happy with what they're allowed to see!
witch Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I don't think it is possible for teachers to know exactly what children are doing all the time, BUT they should be aware of what is going on all around an IT suite. Our IT teachers never stay in one place other than when demonstrating something, and there is always a teaching assistant circling the room as well to check on what is being done. As our printer is in the suite, any child printing something off would be immediately obvious!
browolf Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 thought he was doing the right thing when he showed his mother what he had been getting up to at school. seems an unlikely explanation.
tom_newton Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 he tapped the word porn into an internet search engine. The school has admitted problems with software which is meant to block access to adult sites. "problems"? that's a bit more than a "problem" if you ask me!
tech_guy Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Her ten year old typing the word 'porn' into a search engine?! She's the one who needs taking outside and slapping, the stupid bovine. Bet the little d!pstick has a computer in his bedroom and he's allowed to look at all sorts of carp. Stupid people.
kmount Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 when he tapped the word porn into an internet search engine. Our AUP clearly shows a distinction between accidental access and deliberate misuse. - This falls into the latter.
Gatt Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 agreed with tech_guy - he's probably surfing it at home... Wonder wht software they're using... obviously not SchoolGuardian eh Tom
PeterW Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 thought he was doing the right thing when he showed his mother what he had been getting up to at school. Thats a joke right? "Hey mum look what I managed to print off at school" thats never happened in a million years, unless 10 year old kids really openly discuss such material with thier parents these days, now I'm not that old and it certainly wouldn't have happened when I was at school.
Gatt Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Any one read the comments ? Welcome to Kent Online | Your gateway to Kent

I can see what you're getting at and to be honest my comment was to stir up debate. I also accept that with the best will in the world, these pictures get through our filtering. At my school, the children are unable to print directly from the internet (http is a banned as part of the document title) which would at least make printing the stuff more difficult.
tom_newton Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 agreed with tech_guy - he's probably surfing it at home... Wonder wht software they're using... obviously not SchoolGuardian eh Tom Clearly not. Some people, eh?
Gatt Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 might set up a rule in SG to reroute am google searches for "porn" to a nice flash page with sirens and "DANGER" flashing on the screens
tech_guy Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 The mother is an Essex Girl - nuff said.......... Lol, how do you know when an Essex girl reaches orgasm? She drops her kebab....
mattx Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Lol, how do you know when an Essex girl reaches orgasm? She drops her kebab.... Oooo Ooo Essex Girl Jokes... Q: Why is it good to have an Essex girl passenger ? A: You can park in the handicap zone. Q: How can you tell if an Essex girl's been using the computer ? A: There's Tipp-Ex on the screen. Q: What's the difference between an Essex girl and a computer ? A: You only have to punch information into a computer once. Q: What do an Essex girl and your computer have in common ? A: You don't know how much either of them mean to you until they go down on you.
mattx Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 It's a good thing I have confession this weekend.....
OutToLunch Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Sorry, why did he type the word 'porn' into a search engine again? It's not like he was searching for something innocent and came across it and was horrified. Clearly a problem with the child even if their filters/supervision weren't perfect. Does he have internet access at home? I'd be willing to bet that isn't filtered/supervised either...
mattx Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Does he have internet access at home? I would think so, plus a large box of tissues.
