Trying to set copier to default black and white printing

I am trying to set our copier so that as a default it prints in black and white, but lets the teacher select colour if needed.

 

So far, I have gone onto our Windows print server and changed the printing defaults to black and white, but the clients still seem to have colour as the main option.

 

What have I missed?

 

Do I need to re-deploy the printer from GPO?

Any other print management solutions in place that might be making a change? (PaperCut, or similar, perhaps?

There's preferences as well as printing defaults.

I just set both to what I want them to be.

 

Also, when testing, make sure to try out a fresh document.

I think that saved documents can hold onto their print settings.

 

ALso, try swapping from one printer and back again - you shouldn't have to. But this should make sure your pulling up to date settings.

There is a couple of places this could be set, just make sure it's the 'Defaults' you're actually looking at.

 

On the server, in the printer driver in the printer's properties there is 'Preferences' and the 'Printing Defaults' the resulting dialogue boxes look very similar (I only know because I've made this mistake before).

 

 

Unless maybe the driver has been installed manually on the client and it isn't using the one from the server...?

If you're using v4 printer drivers:

 

set-printconfiguration -color $false -printername "..."

Printer defaults, everyone just goes for preferences.

 

If you then want to get fancy you then want something like PaperCut and start playing with the scripting and client pop ups.

No, nothing else.

 

I have just set it to black and white in both the 'Preferences' and the 'Printing Defaults' pages.

 

I'll check how that goes in the morning.
