Printers not showing on device via intune

I have created a policy following this guide https://www.notbad.tech/all-things-it/intune/intune-how-to-add-deploy-printers-with-intune/ however the profile says it installs fine however i see no printers when I go to printers in the control panel on the device. Wondering if I have missed something.

You have summed it up here! If you are going Intune / Endpoint Manager - you need a third party printing platform. We recently made the decision to move to Canon Machines with Canon Uniflow, and this was a big part of the decision making process. As Canon Uniflow is one of the only vendors that allow Zero Trust printing. We simply deploy an agent - and they can release at any Canon printer across our trust.

 

We still have a few schools who are on old Kyocera contracts and the only solution on these is either something like Printix or another similar app, which sadly does user based pricing...

Or direct print!

 

Canon uniflow does also support direct printing, which is another benefit.

 

Basically - Intune seems to be the biggest hurdle after the TPM requirement in using InTune / Endpoint Manager.

I haven't done it this way - we have done it via Powershell mainly as it is a standalone printer - but one thing I would check...

 

Are the drivers installed? Recent versions of windows is pickier than ever with regards installing printers on non-admin accounts so push out the drivers first as a W32app. I used this guide to both push out drivers, setup the port and configure the printer: https://msendpointmgr.com/2022/01/03/install-network-printers-intune-win32apps-powershell/

How many printers do you have? Definitely do-able if a small number (particularly if drivers are the same).

 

Our secondary school with 30+ printers and no follow-me printing system - that's another job altogether!

So we have papercut and looking at print deploy as a possible solution but will depend on costs. Going back to old way, the end user can navigate to the onsite print server \\servername\printersharename and press connect and it will install the printer with driver. I was hoping that could just use that via a script but doesn't seem to be that easy.

It is, however, the free version has limitations. You can't Deploy by group if I remember correctly

We are using Print Deploy with Intune and whilst as others have said there are limitations when using the free version, we find it nigh on faultless.
