Popular Post Arthur Posted May 17, 2022 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Good news! Link: G Suite legacy free edition Based on customer feedback, we’re updating our approach to G Suite legacy edition transitions. Business users will need to upgrade to Google Workspace, while non-business users can opt-out of the transition. For businesses, the G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available after 27 June 2022. Your account will be automatically transitioned to a paid Google Workspace subscription where we continue to deliver new capabilities to help businesses transform the way they work. In addition to recent innovations like smart canvas, meetings in documents, and dedicated Spaces to help organize people, topics and projects, Google Workspace includes more storage, increased security, 24/7 support, and more. To complete your upgrade, you'll need to set up Google Workspace billing before 1 August 2022. For individuals and families using your account for non-commercial purposes, you can continue using the G Suite legacy free edition and opt out of the transition to Google Workspace by clicking here (requires a super administrator account) or in the Google Admin console. If no action is taken, your account will be suspended starting on 1 August 2022. To reactivate your account, you will either need to upgrade to Google Workspace or contact Support to identify as a non-business user. Qualifying educational institutions and nonprofits have the option to migrate to a free edition, Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, without service disruption. Arthur Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Not good news for me as I've already signed up to business starter - I wonder if I can cancel that...? Someone on Reddit mentioned they were able to switch back to G Suite Legacy by going through support. Might be worth a try? www.reddit.com/r/gsuitelegacymigration/comments/ur5rpr/you_can_switch_back_to_gsuite_legacy_if_you I migrated my email over to Fastmail, but didn't upgrade my legacy G Suite domain to any of the paid Workspace plans so it was easy to switch to the no cost option. I am glad I waited, although I don't think I will be switching my email back to Google. 1
Arthur Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Can you upgrade the storage on the free one? Yes. That's still possible. https://drive.google.com/settings/storage?i=m#upgrade 1
hallb15 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I can confirm, it is very easy to switch back to the free version via the online Support Assistant. Took about 5 clicks.
mcolbourn Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I have moved to Fastmail now for my family email anyway and love it much nicer interface to Gmail IMO. I have also created normal google accounts based on these now so we can share things like purchases via google family link etc which didn't work with gsuite legacy accounts. It nice that Google have relented (for now anyway) for people that have stayed, but I feel much happier paying for an email service from a company that only does email. I also think that this free version will only let you have 10 users total from what I have read on reddit. 1
Zbd Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Thank god for that, I didn't fancy paying for other members of the family, or having to organise payments from them!
FN-GM Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Good news! Link: G Suite legacy free edition Another one excellent post by @Arthur !
kxv2020 Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I have two domains but want to switch the primary domain to the alias and vice versa - anyway to do that on the legacy one?
FN-GM Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 The above linked worked a treat! Took me longer to log into my admin account than it did to confirm it's for personal use only.
