Staff managed Ipads with Apple ID - issues

I have set up some new IPADS for staff - deployed the school apps but they need to download their own personal choice apps to the device. We use lightspeed and Apple School Manager.

I have created them an Apple ID in ASM - but when they come to sign in on the IPAD its asking them for their mobile number which they do want to put in.

How can I get the managed IPADS to allow staff to download from the APP store?

Managed Apple ID's cannot use the App Store, its expected you manage the Apps and deploy them. You can however use the Managed Apple ID for the iCloud services whilst still using a personal Apple ID for the App Store. So just sign out of the App Store and sign in with their a personal Apple ID.

You cannot ‘buy’ apps with a managed Apple ID. The user must use a personal Apple ID for the App Store
