Kyle Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Does anyone use the BBC Bitesize revision website? After a random time, whether the browser has been active within the site or not, Internet Explorer errors. The error logged in the Event Log is: Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x051863b0. We think this is connected with Mandatory Profiles or possibly redirected Application Data but can't say for certain.
john Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 We have it so it hangs at times, normally right when they have been doing one of the online quizes or tests, which are very useful items. Its annoying, and we have contacted them about it. It does seem to happen more often to those "standard users" eg kids and staff, but as usaual the Beeb were there usual self - no we cannot help you, information on our sites setup is confidential, we will not confirm any ports required etc.... So we gave up on it.
Shiny_Guru Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 We get it as well, students have non-mandatory roaming profiles with redirected application dats folders and redirected desktops. I have had one student report they had the same problem at home on her own PC where she probably had full admin rights. Sadly I know that does not help much with fixing the problem.
Kyle Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Has anyone ever complained to the BBC about the site or even contacted the BBC?
john Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Yup, I have contacted them and they basically say, thanks for contacting us, we will not get back to you, its all confidential, private etc.... I find chocolate fireguards more useful than the BBC on that area.
russdev Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 i have pr contact for bbc bitesize i will email them a link to this thread.... cheers Russ
tosca925 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 We are having this isssue as well. It's been happening now for the last 2 or 3 weeks that I am aware of.
petectid Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Same here, problems with links timing out or internet explorer crashing. Not had any reports of other sites causing these problems.
russdev Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 are you all using isa servers... by any chance russ
Guest Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Same here as well. Certain pages make IE crash. Both domain PCs and non domain laptops. Conection is direct to E2BN Proxy. Only seems to be the BBC that causes it.
indiegirl Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I've just had the site open for an hour, randomly clicking.. and I can't kill it. I'm on the same E2BN as Sysman, and we have an ISA server... Weird...
tosca925 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 are you all using isa servers... by any chance Why do you ask Russ?
john Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Yup ISA Server for me, so any joys...... We would really like to get some info from the beeb to try and make better use of there sites, like the new one etc....
ind13 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 hi just wondering if anyone ever had any luck finding out what was causing this, or more importantly how to fix this.
Guest Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Have found a solution that works at the site I was having problems with. After some new PCs were installed it was only happening on the Dell PCs and not HPs so guessed at a hardware issue. On the Dell I moved the slider under the display / troubleshoot tab down a notch and it has fixed the issuse.
