LeMarchand Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 On the other hand, the main site seems to have 'moved with the times' and is well up (or 'down' as the kids would say) with the socials... They must be getting/hoping for lots of money from China!
Norphy Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 "Ruffle puts Flash back on the web, where it belongs" *confidently decides to ignore it* Ruffle is an entirely open source project maintained by volunteers. We're all passionate about the preservation of internet history, and we were drawn to working on this project to help preserve the many websites and plethora of content that will no longer be accessible when users can no longer run the official Flash Player. If you would like to help support this project, we welcome all contributions of any kind - even if it's just playing some old games and seeing how well they run. Because preserving the contents of Joe Cartoon is soooo important for the sake of humanity. Why are we as a society so obsessed with preserving what's old?
LeMarchand Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Why are we as a society so obsessed with preserving what's old? "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Koldov Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Subject: Ancient Greece - British museum. Why are we as a society so obsessed with preserving what's old? Is that irony or sarcasm...? I can never tell! 1
StevieM Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Why are we as a society so obsessed with preserving what's old? Your sig* answers that question quite succinctly! (*Which I love, by the way, only I would change 'it' for 'IT'. )
Koldov Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 They must be getting/hoping for lots of money from China! I think the Chinese are a massive source of income from tourism and they are quite well represented in the form of students to this country too.
Ironside Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Because preserving the contents of Joe Cartoon is soooo important for the sake of humanity. Why are we as a society so obsessed with preserving what's old? You seem mighty annoyed at a bunch of volunteers doing something to ensure old multimedia content can be preserved and used down the line. Why?
Koldov Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) Anyway... Given that it is a different domain (not even a sub-domain) of the British museum site and the 'support email' is for an ac.uk domain (I wonder if it was a student project), it would appear that this has been left in the annals (notice the extra 'n' it's important) as an artefact of its time with its historic Flash content... Koldov Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Although the website with the content is Ancient Greece - The British Museum (www .ancientgreece.co.uk) and although there's a British Museum link on the home page and the content is © British Museum, there doesn't appear to be too much else linking the 2 sites.
Koldov Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 There does appear to be some content on the British Museum site: https://www.britishmuseum.org/learn/schools/ages-7-11/ancient-greece But it mostly seems to be PDF, PowerPoint and Word documents. That's not going to be as exciting or engaging as some interactive Flash content (story/game etc.). 1
