Seen a lot in this thread about keeping content up to date but I thought I would say what i've done to almost automate the entire content side of things using Xibo.

 

Multiple areas on the screen with the following

 

College logo

nice background of the college grounds washed out a bit so text is readable over the top.

 

Clock Widget with date

5 day weather forecast

Social media icons with the online handle

 

Our admin team build a calendar at the beginning of the year with all of the events/deadlines in it, so that was easy enough to export as an ical file and add into xibo showing "Todays events"

 

I used rss.app to convert our twitter feed into an RSS feed. Xibo then pulls the picture and the text from each tweet, formats it nicely and puts it in it's own bounding box. It then rotates the 5 latest tweets.

 

It's been rock solid for months now, if anyone if interested i can share what my layout looks like in PMs

We also use Chrome OS, Google slides and Chrome Sign Builder.

 

Sign Builder is a bit of work to get your head round, but you should only have to do it once.

 

Once the slides are setup, you can just share it with the staff responsible and they crack on with it. Pretty all the updates are done through slides.

How did you get content owners to actually manage and update the content? Don't want this to fall back on IT to do as we have enough to do as it is. AFAIC it's not up to IT to do this. We don't send the newsletters out, so why would we manage the content when we don't create it.

I use Xibo but most of the content is pulled from our school website which staff can contribute too (Via approval by the head).

Spent a lot of time (mainly my own) looking, testing and trying different ideas of getting the content updated. Always comes back to someone updating it in the Xibo CMS itself. Only other one is embedded Google slides etc as the best way.

 

Looked at Canva recently but again it's a create and export, then upload etc to Xibo unless you're cloud-based.

 

Just seems people want these things, but no-one wants to do the hard work it takes to actually update the damm things.

This will always be the problem, as myself and others have done, convert content people already make into what gets displayed - It's "Automatic" then.

 

Easiest way, if anything can provide an RSS feed, all the social media platforms do this, wordpress too. Just embed that, that way it's pretty instant and you dont need to worry about a thing
