Unable to deploy Sharp printer from new server, even as admin on local laptop.

Just installed a new server (2019), old one was 2012R2. Setup a new printer in printer manager, shared it and then deployed it from GPO. Log in to my test Windows 10 laptop and nothing deploys, but it does get listed on the laptop if I do a search for printers.

Just added the 'Point and click' GPO suggested in another forum but still nothing.

I am logged onto the laptop as a local admin.

The GPO is set as 'Update', is this OK?

Just to really confuse the issue, I just logged onto a few teachers laptop with my local admin account and the printer gets listed on 2 out of 6. All laptops are in the same OU.

Does anyone have any ideas?

How are you checking that the print has, or hasn't installed?

I have found recently when troubleshooting printing, that when I look in Devices and Printers, printers are visually stuck at installing. However, if I open up Word or something like that, I will see that the list of printers is there as it should be. Devices and Printers view catches up a few hours later.

The other thing to look at would be Event Log, when printers fail to map, you should see an error logged under Application.

Nothing is stuck installing, its just not listed. Ill try and do a print from word when I am next back at that school.

Thanks, Ill check that out when back at the school.

So it looks like I have the same error on my Windows 10 VM, so can test from home.

Nothing in event logs under Application that jumps out at me, but under Admin events I have

Device setup manager

Event ID - 152

Removal of device node 'SWD\PRINTENUM\WSD-9dd7a316-05e9-4483-a82d-276ff0efe397' failed with error code 0x800F020B.

and

User device registration

Event id - 304

Automatic registration failed at join phase. Exit code: Unknown HResult Error code: 0x801c001d

Ohhh I might have fixed it.

I had a 'delete' printer GPO to delete an old printer we no longer have. I just removed this GPO, did a gpupdate /force and the new printer is now listed.

Will need to pop into the school to fully test, fingers crossed.

Ah, sounds promising! Fingers crossed.

The trick with Delete commands is to set them to apply only once, I find. Every now and then I'll redo all my printers and start with "Delete - All Printer Connections" set to run only once, before listing my new printers.

How do I set the GPO to delete the printers only once?
