I have a requirement for a Dynamic DNS client to put on some PC's for the purposes of some firewall rules.

Currently I have been using NO-IP which has a limit of 3 which has done me, it gives me a domain.ddns.net, every 30 days I just confirm that I still want to use it as such.

I need to expand and need more so will have to pay for something, just wondered if anyone else is using any others? I can get 2 years and up to 25 host names for £36 which is £1.50 a month.

I have my own domain but would like to create a sub domain of dns.mydomain.co.uk so the end ones would be user.dns.mydomain.co.uk

Any thoughts on this, I have no option as clients are on none static IP's externally.

Cheers

Who’s your domain with? A lot of them have api built in for updating it with a quick script (client depending etc) that could just be scheduled

Especially if it’s all going to be a subdomain of the one main domain would probably work out cheaper to migrate that domain to a register that does api even if yours doesn’t

Just a thought

My domains are with 123 Reg.

It's individual client computers that will run the client and update that way. No I cannot put a VPN on them for that is needed before anyone asks!

If you use cloud flare for your dns you can make use of their api to simulate ddns with a task schedule that calls the api to update the IP address.

Just create a free account, add your domain, then point your 123reg name server settings to cloudflare

Without getting into the whys etc. Have you also considered NAT if the local addresses are private i.e. RFC 1918 . Would a reservation help instead of a static IP address, I use reservations all the time at home for IoT stuff, etc. so I can specify the addresses in the firewall for outgoing traffic and traffic that needs to talk to internal servers.

I did have a DynDNS paid for account some time back.

Just looked.. seemingly I have been a No-IP customer for 15 years....

Used with my own domain, never had any problems.

PS TRICK30 will give you 30% off for a "new service", not sure if it'll be valid for this?

Do you use a .uk or .uk.com with yours? I have an existing domain I have a sub domain of that I wish to use with this but struggling. I have a ticket open with them.

It's a .co.uk domain.

I have one wildcard setup and multiple sub-domains - they are the Authoritative for the domain though.
