Our staff now have laptops to use in the classroom instead of networked PC's.

They connect to Smartboards and sound etc. via a USB-C docking station. This all seems to work fine, but the issue we are having is with SMART notebook and the SMART boards.

Normally you would setup the orientation on the PC once and because the PC doesn't move the settings stay the same. However with the laptops, the teachers are having to orient the board every time they move classes.

I have been unable to find a way to stop this having to happen. We are running SMART Notebook 20 although the boards are SMART SB680's (rather old)

Does anyone have a solution or work around?

Many thanks

My honest thought:

You'll do better encouraging the teachers to orient the board. It takes seconds and if they don't do it, there a risk it won't be properly oriented and then you'll get complaints about it not working properly.

I know, but have you tried getting teachers to do things more than once?

If it was off a bit they could cope with it, but then orient if its too bad. They are just trying to save time.

I have shown them how quick it is to orient the board, but they want it all working out of the bag as it were.

I have and I sympathise. If you've tried explaining, I'd just move on to ignoring. You have more important issues to deal with and so do they.

Probably wouldn't go down well, but I suspect that you could create a script that detects if a board is connected at logon (or subsequently) and launches the "Orient" routine. Might want to invest in a hard hat before you implement that, though!

This is very true. I try to ignore most of the stupid things that come my way, this may end up being one of them. However, one teacher is like a terrier (wont let go)

I have a hard hat just for the normal day to day. Might need to borrow someone's crash helmet

Good suggestion though.
