Not entirely sure if this is the right place for this post, so Mods feel free to move it to an appropriate area!

I have been asked to provide an iPad to a student as they cannot see the screen in the classroom properly due to some sight issues. I have been asked to mirror the screen to the iPad so they can look at the screen closer on their iPad.

My question is; has anyone got any apps that allow them to do this in your schools? I have been searching online and I can find loads that will mirror from the iPad to the PC but not from the PC to the iPad and those that claim to do this have not worked when I have tested them.

The setup in the classrooms is a Windows 10 PC hooked up to an interactive screen only, and an iPad for the child running up to date iOS.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Two questions:

1) Do you have a classroom management product like Impero or NetSupport School or something similar to that already?

2) If so, does it have to be an iPad that you give to the student?

A lot of classroom management products like those have the ability to cast the teacher's screens to other computers. If the answer to 1 is "Yes" and 2 is "No", you could use $ClassroomManagementProduct to show the teacher's screen to a laptop that's sitting on the student's desk. Even if you don't have one, you could use Veyon - https://veyon.io/en/

Our LA vision support service provide HumanWare Prodigi which we then install view only VNC software on the teachers PC. Probably worth asking to see if that's available.

Actually, that's probably the simplest solution - a VNC server on the teacher's PC and a viewer on the iPad

https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/vnc/ or https://www.tightvnc.com/ or https://www.uvnc.com/

I'm pretty sure most VNC servers can be set to view only.

We had a similar request for one of our students a few years ago, and had to point out the GDPR implications to the councils SEND member they had sent over. Unlike projectors where the screen could be frozen to take the register, most of the screen mirroring solutions they were recommending just capture the whole screen all the time so that would be sent to the students laptop.

Our solution was for the student to have a dedicated Team setup which the SENCO is an owner off and keeps up to date with all the students teachers.

Any powerpoints that are used in the class are put into the team and the student can access it via the iPad at the magnification they need without any worries about accidently broadcasting student details to the device.

If you have something like Teams, you could have a meeting set up for the class, the student joins the meeting on the iPad and the teacher shares the screen? When they're doing the registers they just turn screen sharing off.

So many possibilities here!

Thanks for the suggestions all! We are looking to go down the route of sharing the work with them over OneNote etc and them accessing it on a device, rather than sharing the screen as @Boredguy mentioned. Myself and the business manager who is our Data Protection Officer just have too many concerns regarding the screen being mirrored etc with GDPR etc (e.g. our staff have a habit of leaving things like half finished CPOMS in a tab, freezing the board and editing it on their screen, which would all still be visible on the mirrored device, and the risk of them forgetting to stop the share is too high for us unfortunately.)

Thanks for all the suggestions though everyone!

Can I ask what the screen is? A number of BenQ screens have mirroring functionality built in as standard. If it is one of ours, happy to help guide through set up.
