ISO: Digital signage software that does not require Port 8080

Hi all,

My organization has an LG Supersign that we simply put .png files on a USB and use the native slideshow function.

We want to use the free LG Simple Editor software to create dynamic slides and distribute through the network to the SuperSign, but Simple Editor does not run if Port 8080 is already used, which it is for Trend Micro Scan security software.

 

Our IS dept will open Port 8080 for a short time when we want to post new slides, but we can't even open/use the Simple Editor software to create/revise the content because Port 8080 is in use. So we can't use the software at all

Does anyone know of or currently use a digital signage solution that allows posting through the network but doesn't require port 8080? I see digital signage in hospital waiting rooms, universities, etc. and wonder how it is accomplished.

On what computer does the editor run? How is it distributed to the display?

Right now we're not using the editor software at all -- can't open it because it wants port 8080 at the start. We are just creating the visuals in PowerPoint 16:9 aspect ratio, saving each slide as a .png, copying them to a USB stick and inserting it into the player. It plays the slide show but doesn't fill the screen and goes to black between slides.

 

We use Windows 10 computers. We are part of a regional healthcare system and they are nailing down the security very tightly

Xibo doesn’t use 8080 - it uses 80/443 and 9505 in later versions. It’s free and popular - we’ve used it for 10+ years.

You need a device to run it from - we use mini PCs but it’s supported on lots of platforms. Then it’s just a case of using an HDMI input instead.

Plus one for Xibo.. I've used it a several schools, and have just finished deploying it in my current school

Right, but where is that software installed? On the local computer? On a server? On the internet? On the tv?

We use Onelan - THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION.

 

That said, it doesn't seem to use 8080.
