Papercut accounts issue

Morning folks,

 

Hoping someone may have encountered this and be able to offer some help.

 

Our printing contract has expired long ago with that also the support for papercut.

we are therefore stuck at Version: 16.1 (Build 35753) with no way to get support!

 

We have security groups in AD that map to shared accounts in papercut, different groups for each department.

add the AD user to the corresponding groups sync with papercut > user logs in at machine and is presented with the options they are members of > select department > print > billed to department.

 

Simple system and little that can go wrong and nothing has for ~6years but we now have two users that get an authentication error after selecting a department (both users experience this with different groups and have no issues with other groups newly added or existing).

 

I've tried removing the users from papercut and the groups before resyncing and adding them back, I've added them to different groups and they work fine.

I'm unable to recreate the issue with a test user, currently considering creating a new group and migrating users however this is likely to cause issues for finance when billing and I've no gurantee I wont see the same issue again next week.

 

anyone able to shed any light at all on this as it makes no sense to me

Hi Thanks for the response, in papercut?

 

if so yes, on the security tab for the account the AD security group is there, I've also tried adding the specific user into it but that makes no difference.

if I look at the users account in papercut it shows him having membership to the group in question.

Have just stubled upon a partial remedy, I've created a sub account and added the users to this rather than the main group, this should make it less annoying for finance (i expect they will still complain!) and lets them copy/print to the correct department.

 

Today I'll take a partial win, is it christmas yet?

Has the users in question some how really long or has a hyphen in it? ( or any other obscure characters)

 

Can’t remember what version it was but papercut had a flaw whereby a user eg 21bloggsa could authenticate using 21blôggsa or 21bloggsà as separate papercut accounts.

Whilst seems harmless we had auto credit assignment and the ability enabled to transfer funds between accounts.

 

The lovely darlings worked out they could transfer initial credit from several accounts with special characters in to their own real account.

 

I only come to realise this when my licenses exceeded their maximum and papercut entered its grace period have 4x as many licensed account than I was licensed for.

Hi There

no special charecters or hyphens in the names, have since had a few more users with the same issue.

I've simply added further sub groups and spoken to the buisiness manager to inform them that we really, really, really need to get our printing contract sorted!
