Windows update 06/09/21 has broken Onenote for Windows 10

Onenote for Windows 10 has stopped syncing for all users after yesterdays security updates.. anyone else?

I can confirm that one here too. Also people reporting the issue on iOS, MacOS and Android on reddit: Sync Error E000006B blg57 : OneNote (reddit.com)

 

Looks OneNote works fine, just not OneNote for Windows 10. Office 365 cloud version works fine as well.

this is just bad timing, I had a teacher loose work as it was unsynced and the laptop failed! Also all the teachers are sorting team groups and copying sections to new classnotes (that can't do via the web version)

 

2 hours of wasted time on this and it didn't show on the services tab of office 365!

So what was the actual issue? We had many instances where the OneNote Windows 10 app didn't work (but it worked in OneNote desktop) but I couldn't find it reported anywhere on Microsoft's dashboards.

I had a similar issue earlier in the week, and I needed to add a new URLs to our Office 365 whitelist category on Smoothwall to get it working again:

 

browser.pipe.aria.microsoft.com

business.bing.com

 

I suspect the former rather than the latter solved the issue, but putting both JIC.
