genesis Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Hi Please could me post if there any free networking basic resources websites and would like to pass on this to my IT apprentice. Thanks
notsogenius Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 I think Professor Messer(spelling?) does some good stuff for the Network + course on Youtube that would probably go into some good detail. 2

notsogenius Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Link: Professor Messer IT Certification Training - CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ That'll be the one - i'm wondering why I didn't just provide a link now! 1
pete Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 The cheatsheets on packetlife are a useful reference: https://packetlife.net/library/cheat-sheets/ 1
Davit2005 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 (edited) I'd be inclined to watch some YouTube videos on the basics before going down the cert route for learning/training but this also depends on existing ability/attitude of the apprentice. Start off with some basics i.e. devices in networking Switches, WiFi Access points, routers, firewall. Then some on IP addresses such as LAN/WAN IP addresses, APIPA, subnet masks, gateway, DHCP and very basics of DNS. Apprentice may well have an understanding of the basics these days anyway (well more than me learning from scratch at 25 and now 50, lol). Real world troubleshooting. Give them something to learn and relate to at your specific organization first then the relating to the CompTIA stuff will be easier in my opinion. I did a CCNA in 2003 but have only really been doing mainly networking for the last 5-7 years, a good bit of what I learnt in the CCNA I have forgotten. Edited August 13, 2021 by Davit2005 1

psydii Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Free stuff as per above. But if your org can muster a couple of hundred pounds, you can get the entire Pluralsight library via their charity/education offer https://www.pluralsightone.org/ 1
Guest Guest Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 NetworkChuck on YouTube has some very good videos, he recently did a "free CCNA" course
