I normally enable the Windows FW on the Standard GPO, but disable it on the Domain GPO.

OMG, now its working on this laptop with the firewall enabled.

 

Only thing I can think of at the moment is perhaps some Google update came out that needed access through the firewall, but the 4 teachers working from home have the firewall enabled as they are going through the private firewall policy, everyone at school has the domain firewall disabled.

 

Although that doesnt explain why the files fanished while I was at school going through the domain policy (no firewall).

they were actually on one of the laptops yesturday for over an hour and couldn't workout what the issue was.

yep, I was actually in the process of testing this out on some old laptops and will roll domain firewall out in september / october. Already have all the servers firewall turned on now.

 

Hope I am not jumping the gun but just had one of the teachers call me to say her files are all back and have been back for 20 minutes. If this holds I am now wondering if the Google support person new something yesturday, as he asked me to wait until today to see if the folders came back. In fact its almost 24 hours to the dot that I spoke to him.

Bit of a side step but... do you have a basic list of required domain services to allow through the client firewall. Don't want to block things like Group Policy being able to apply on a laptop.

It's ages since we did it but I think the only changes we had to make were for SIMS. Do you use SIMS?

I already have SIMS working through a test setup but wanted to start turning of some of the default allowed firewall settings on the clients, as I bet 80% are not needed.

 

I can do this through trial and error but thought I could save myself a load of time by asking.

Interestingly I've had one user report the exact symptoms this morning. @TwistedHelixis - is it possible you can PM your Google case number please, so they have something to relate to?

Not had any other reported issues, but I have noticed Google are now up to version 50.0.11.0. By disconnecting from Google Drive, clearing Google Chrome's cache/cookies etc.. and a restart has cleared any similar issues.

We've seen this with a couple of our teachers and shared Google drives. Have you tried going up a level, Shift + Right click on the folder, then selecting 'Refresh Folder'?

This seems to allow the teachers to get all the contents of the folder without having to disconnect the google account.

Ive recently been getting this too, removing the drivefs folder from %localappdata%\google seems to solve it until after a reboot. :/

Found the fasted way to fix this is to use the hidden refresh menu. Hold down the shift key and click on a folder with some missing files inside and you should get the extra option to refresh the contents.
