Are there any remote access solutions priced on clients being accessed, not users

just wondered if there are any remote access solutions that are price based on clients being accessed rather than the amount of users.

 

Basically I have about 8 staff members (could change) that need to access one or two computers remotely, obvioulsy if we got something like TeamViewer this would cost a fortune as its based on user count.

 

BTW we have remote desktop disabled on all devices and I dont want a VPN.

Can you enable RDS? We have RDS servers in the building and staff/students can login to these remotley. It's also possible to redirect the connection for staff to their personal machine in the building. You can license this per device or per user and is fairly cheap under the schools EES agreement.

Not strictly device only, but much cheaper than TeamViewer - Zoho Assist. You'd pay for 8 technicians I think, plus 1 batch of unattended PCs. So, about £80 a month for it.

Or something like RealVNC. They do a free version for non-commercial use (not sure if they class education as commercial or not!). The paid version is only about £25 for the year.

VNC? Over the internet? That gives me shudders. 8 character password with no lockout limit for brute forcing attacks.

Yeah, I wouldn't use it personally but he's wanting cheap options. You go cheap, you've got to weigh up cost vs risk!

Although it looks like it uses multi-factor authentication in VNC Connect.

Apparently Google Chrome Remote Desktop can be used to do this for free.

We use Ericom's AccessNow, now seemingly re-branded / grouped into their "Connect" product:

This is licensed by concurrent users, we have a 30-seat license that covers us for all our staff's remote desktop usage. Client access is simpyl via a web browser, so no client install needed for the user.

Do they need access to these exact machines? Or would a Azure VM work with a VPN from Azure back to your site. That way you can use Azure MFA and all it's security to protect your network and the VM.

Take a look at Splashtop Business, you pay per client you connect to (if i remember the lowest tier is like 25 computers) but it's cheap, reliable, works well and you can have as many technician accounts as you want to connect to them.
